MLCS Rules & Regulations

Contest

  • Maximum Loin Chili Society concerns itself with conducting a fair and virtuous chili cookoff contest between members and associated members of Maximum Loin.
  • The 2016 MLCS contest will be held at 4:30PM on Saturday, October 29 at spot #802 on site of the American Royal BBQ Competition (view map).

Contestant Eligibility

  • Contestant eligibility is contingent on submission of application to the MLCS.
  • Applications must be received no later than Tuesday, October 25 at 11:59PM
  • Applicants will be notified of the status of their acceptance to the contest on or before Wednesday, October 26 at 4:30PM

Preparation

  • All chili must be prepared between the hours of 8am and 4:30pm on Saturday, October 29, 2016.
  • Prior to cooking, contestants must check in with an MLCS representative to have their ingredients inspected.
  • Chefs may check in and prepare chili off-site, but must arrange for check-in via live video chat
  • Raw ingredients may be prepped before check-in(for example, vegetables may be pre-chopped), but all cooking must be done on the day of the competition.
  • There are no regulations regarding contents of raw ingredients.

Submission

  • All chili must be submitted by 4:30PM in the container supplied by the MLCS
  • Contestants are granted a 5-minute leeway window on each side of the 4:30PM deadline
  • Contestants must submit a minimum of 3 quarts of chili

Judging and Scoring

  • A panel of judges selected by the MLCS will be responsible for scoring submissions
  • Judges will score each team’s chili on a scale of 1-9, with a score of 1 being classified as “terrible”, and a score of 9 being classified as “excellent.”
  • Judges are free to score however they wish, but they will be encouraged to take these five characteristics into account: Aroma, Consistency, Appearance, Taste, Aftertaste

Winner and Awards

  • Once all scores have been tallied by the MLCS, an award ceremony will commence
  • The chili with the highest cumulative score wins
  • In the event of a tie, the MLCS comissioner will select the winning chili
  • The winning chili will be announced, and the winning team will be presented with the MLCS Grand Champion award
